How do Chinese and Western media view China-Tibet relation?

New Tibet

Regarding to the changes in Tibet throughout these 50 years, Chinese media gives much more emphasis on the economic growth and the improvements in living standards, believing it’s the best indicator of Tibet’s fast development and modernization. Also, Chinese state media claims that CCP’s policy receives full support from the Tibetan people. On the other hand, Western media tends to represent Tibet people as a large group who are barred from telling their true stories. Western media also points out that the widespread protests exist both in and outside of Tibet and argues that Tibetan people have been denied of religion freedom. By exploring both Chinese and Western medias’ propaganda, I come to realize, besides the political influence on press, it is the ideology rooted deep in Chinese and Western culture that contribute to the difference representation. Finally, the Tibetan riot in March 2008 serves as a good example of how ideology and stereotypes results in media bias.
